So the day started about 5:30 am, woke up, picked up my two brothers, and made our way to the harbor in Santa Barbara. By 6:15 am we were checked in with the people at Sea Landing and waiting for the Stardust to depart the harbor. After hearing one guy say he was getting off the boat because he was targeting ling cod and we were going up the coast and not to the islands, I was a little disappointing, but about half mile outside the harbor the captain said the wind had died and we were heading to the islands, so I just felt bad for the guy. After about a 2 1/2 hour trip out and a quick tutorial by the deck hands we were ready to fish. The captain bounced us around to a bunch of different spots trying to put us on top of fish so we prob only fished each spot about 20 minutes. All around it was a great day I ended with with 1 legal lingcod, and 10 red rockfish, my older brother ended with two big legal lingcod and a handful of rockfish, not sure what my little brother ended up with he was pretty hungover most of the day. We fished with live anchovies and cut squid all day, and personally me and my older brother found the anchovies to really work a lot better, on a standard double hook rockfish rig with a 12 oz weight. I recommend to anyone in the Santa Barbara area that wants to catch some good fish call Stardust Sportfishing, the crew was very knowledgable and friendly, and they had a killer menu for food on board.
